I Probably Should Start Writing the Thesis Literature Review & Structure Chapters… Even Without a Direction
The literature review and chapter structure begin to take shape while the direction of the thesis remains intentionally unresolved. Rather than fixing a position too early, the research is kept open, allowing different trajectories to be explored and tested. This approach deliberately resists premature clarity. Instead, the direction of the thesis is expected to emerge through confrontation with the literature, rather than being defined in advance.

The MA thesis will be written in the third person, accumulating approximately 8,000 words. The artist book and overall concept remain undefined at this stage. It would not be surprising to be perceived as “not academic” in the traditional sense, and to feel overwhelmed by the anticipation of having to add words to images.
The starting subject focuses on “children”, understood here as a form of potential rather than a fixed category. They are seen as carrying ideas yet to be written, and as a measure of how humanity develops. However, this remains a thesis in interior architecture and design, not psychology or sociology, and does not intend to fully engage with the history of children’s private residential interiors.
Children’s interiors have often been shaped either by parental projections or by educational frameworks. Experiences vary widely depending on background, culture, and social conditions. This thesis does not attempt to map these histories in depth, but instead shifts towards speculation.
Rather than looking backwards, the research considers possible futures. It operates through hypotheses, using a case study that may represent an early instance of cabinetry designed by architects in relation to child play within a domestic environment. This is taken as a point of experimentation, to be tested and challenged through theoretical propositions, dialogue with AI, and the evaluation of potential outcomes.
